Hi Rob,
That's interesting, looks like 09 was their first year. I wonder if they included eggs and beef last year.
Can I ask how much a share / half share was? Last year's dragon fly was 275, I believe. With our half share we had quite a bit of vegetables for the two of us.
This year they offered a fruit share, but we decided to pass on that, since we end up doing quite a bit of pyo anyways. I'd love to hear how you guys feel about it 1/2 way through, and at the end of the season.
We just signed up for a CSA for the first time for this year. We signed on with Springdell Farm in Littleton. We'll get veggies, meat (from their own beef herd), fresh cut flowers... I think eggs and honey too. They cover all the bases! I can't wait.

Well, as of now, we are planning on selling eggs, mulch, hopefully fiber goods. There are limitations on what you are allowed to sell. Basically the farmers market by laws say
'Vendors may sell one product that is not produced by that vendor, as long as it is locally produced and the actual producer is clearly indicated'
So Tastefully simple is out, at least for now.
I need to make plans to have fiber goods ready for July.
I enjoyed reading your list. I particularly relate to #7. As a child I would cry myself to sleep b/c I was worried about Chicken Little being all alone while the sky was falling. I still feel sad when I think of him.
Tell Tasha that I enjoyed reading her list also. Fun!

I hear that psnh said that 95% of claremont should have power by cob today. I know my parents have been without it the entire time. Lucky enough the purchased a generator, but they are growing tired of having to fill up it's gas tank. Glad to hear you and Daryl are ok.

Mom C, glad to hear you're ok and power's back on. Sounds like it was out as long as ours. I think if we'd had heat it would have been pretty easy to cope with - it was the cold that was getting us toward the end. We do need to get a crank flashlight/radio. Never thought I'd want one of those but now I can see the benefit! How's the rest of your town doing?

Excellent commentary! I read it all outloud to Darrell.

Our power was out for 3 days. We have a woodstove in the downstairs area and used it for warmth and for cooking. We have oil lamps, but were hesitant to use them as Bob, the cat likes to knock things over. The downstairs was in the 60's after it got going. Upstairs got down to 45 degrees. We slept upstairs under Kate's sheep fleece. I would highly recommend that hide of fur. It's heavy, but keeps you really warm. We used an LL Bean manually rechargable flashlight, which was good for us b/c we are always hunting for batteries. Glad you're OK. Today's project is to hack away at the ice still on our driveway. Take Care-Jeanne

Very inspiring. Lately, I have been eating much less meat and more and more veggies. We particularly like Asian food and that cuisine lends itself to token amounts of meat-mostly chicken. The same is true with Indian curry, to which we were introduced by Jeremy. We recently made Pho and found it to be a food that we will make regularly.........I'm getting hungry!!

Thanks for the read and comment! Certainly you are right, not eating any meat is a much smaller footprint, and in the US we've skewed (as is now much of the developing world) to having meat with nearly every meal. We simply don't need this much for good health.

While I feel we've made better choices about our meat - we're now getting directly from a farmer who grass feeds and is just a mile from our house, walked through the barn etc - your comment today got me thinking another small effort I can make is to eat little to no meat outside the home.

It's a process, one we've started fairly recently, to reconnect ourselves to food.

One thing people can do to make their food consumption be more sustainable is become vegetarian, or even better, vegan. (Or just eat less meat)

While there are some downsides to going, uh, whole hog... (not the least of which is being lumped in with annoyingly militant vegetarians) it may be worthwhile, depending on how strongly you feel about this stuff
